Board of Supervisors

LAKE OF THE WOODS SWCD

SWCDs are governed by a 5-member Board of Supervisors.  Supervisors serve a 4-year term.  In Lake of the Woods County, the SWCD Supervisor Districts are the same as County Commissioner Districts.  Supervisor Districts are on the ballot during the General Election.   

The SWCD Board is responsible for setting goals, priorities and policies for the District.  Board members participate in monthly meetings to make decisions and provide feedback to staff.  They also attend tours, trainings and have opportunities to participate in local, Area and State committees.

WHY SERVE ON THE SWCD BOARD?

An elected board of Supervisors governs each of Minnesota’s 88 SWCDs.

SWCDs are a primary source of conservation information, support and program management for landowners and other local units of government. 

They are the technical experts that understand their specific communities’ needs and help landowners navigate conservation programs from start to finish. 

Serving on the SWCD board is not a paid position, but board members are reimbursed for expenses and receive a stipend for each meeting.

INTERESTED IN FILING FOR OFFICE?

Filing for SWCD Supervisor typically occurs during a two-week filing period that starts mid-May. This filing period can be found on the MN Secretary of State website.

Candidates must be an eligible voter and reside in the District which is up for election.  

Candidates may file for office by contacting the County Auditor during the filing period for the upcoming election cycle.    

SWCD Supervisors are on the ballot during the November General Election. 

Election Cycle for SWCD Districts:

Districts 3 and 4 = elections in 2022, 2026, 2030

Districts 1,2 and 5 = elections in 2024, 2028, 2032
