FEEDLOTS AND LIVESTOCK
MAXIMIZE YOUR FARM’S POTENTIAL
LIVESTOCK ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
The SWCD is the designated County Feedlot Officer. We work locally to assist producers in meeting State regulations.
The SWCD hosts local livestock workshops and provides financial assistance for pasture and feedlot upgrades. We also partner with other agencies such as the NRCS to help promote current assistance programs.
FREE MANURE TESTING
If you, or someone you know, has a stockpile of manure to spread, you may want to consider participating in our new soil and manure testing program. Spreading manure on pastures or ag fields can be a great way to add nutrients back into your soils.
The SWCD is currently covering 100% of testing costs. The manure tests include potassium, phosphorus, nitrates and moisture. The soil tests will cover potassium, phosphorus, pH, soluble salts and organic matter. With this combination of results you can determine the best rate of application to maximize your fertilizing potential.

GRAZING AND PASTURE IMPROVEMENTS
There are options available for improving your pasture and grazing lands. Our staff works with the NRCS technicians to offer technical services, and also provide cost share for improvements.
Previously funded practices include:
- Exterior and interior fencing as part of rotational grazing system
- Rain gutters for clean water diversions
- Watering systems like pipelines
- Pasture and hay plantings

LOCAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
The SWCD partners with organizations like the Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of MN, and Sustainable Farming Association to offer local training.
We maintain a mailing list for local producers, including producers in our surrounding counties.
